Episode #190 Shownotes

A scenario exists where legally purchased materials are not available through a product provided by the company from which you buy those materials. If these materials were anything other than 'pornography' there would be an outcry.

Hollywood is running out of ideas. The risk for executives and producers losing their jobs, and perhaps more importantly money for their studios, is so great that people are only willing to risk a budget for 'proven commodities'. That means sequels for films that have already made money or films that are based on existing comic books or TV shows. The Writer/Directors of the film Skyline were told by a Hollywood producer that the best way to get their original script made was to convert it into a comic. That way instead of a producer taking a risk on an original story, he could point at the fact it was an existing property and was ready to be made into a film. It's a disturbing tale. The fact that both major animation studios provided us with sequels this year, shows that originality is feared in Hollywood.

Only one live video and one produced one this week.

Episode #189 Shownotes

Guess what. I got so caught up with the final Time Trial of the Tour de France that I didn't have time to finish editing the podcast. So here it is a day late.

Allowing for my terrible record at predicting cycling races I'm rather surprised to report that Australian Cadel Evans did indeed win the Tour. He managed to take 2 1/2 minutes out of the Schleck brothers in the time trial and will be confirmed as the Tour winner after today's stage finishing on the Champs Elysees. Thomas Voeckler managed to hang on for 4th place. The only remaining question to be answered is whether Mark Cavendish will win the Green Jersey. He's 15 points ahead of his closest rival and has won on the Champs Elysees for the past two years, so it's hopeful, but history has shown not to count any chickens.

It's very rare to recommend a film that didn't really connect with you. However, The Tree of Life is a unique situation in many ways. If you can accept that you are going to watch a gorgeous film that doesn't have a traditional structure or plot you might get some entertainment out of it. Having said that, I did go in with that attitude and it didn't hit home for me. I would still recommend the film because at the absolute minimum it's beautiful to watch.

Only three live videos this week, one of which gets cut off rather abruptly.

Episode #188 Shownotes

A side note to the case of Milly Dowler is the trial of the man who was eventually convicted of her murder, Levi Bellfield. In total he has been convicted of the murders of three girls. At the same time he was on trial for Milly's murder he was also on trial for the attempted abduction of an 11 year old girl. This second trial had to be abandoned when papers published prejudicial material regarding the case. It just goes to show that the tabloids are out of control.

One produced video this week, which is pretty good and a couple of live performances.
