Episode #148 Shownotes

Incredibly late because of World Cup matches, the Dr. Who season finale and a friends 21st birthday the new episode is now released.

I want to clarify my thoughts on the Cybermen. Russell T. Davies did not ruin the Cybermen purely by creating them in an alternative universe. In fact the alternative universe was absolutely necessary to allow Rose and the Doctor to separate. The way RTD ruined the Cybermen was not to have them established in 'our' universe. The only times we saw the Cybermen in the RTD era, they were from the alternative universe and we never saw 'our' Cybermen.

It's also occurred to me that The Time Lords wanted to destroy the entire universe as well.

This World Cup was supposed to be the coming-out party for the African continent. Instead it seems to be a return to form for the Asian continent. South Korea and Japan both made it to the 2nd round for the 1st time outside their own countries. North Korea and the other 'Asian' entrant Australia also had creditable performances. Ghana is the only African nation to make the 2nd round, and if the generally perceived Pan-Africanism is true then they will be one of the most supported nations in the rest of the tournament.

To add to my slight hypocrisy about Apple, I would absolutely love to get an iPad.

A couple of nice videos this week as well as a slightly dodgy live performance.

Episode #147 Shownotes

After a busy day splitting my time between podcast editing, 3 World Cup matches and the season finale of Dr. Who, the podcast is finally released.

It has occurred to me that I might have made it seem like Janez Brajkovic might be a doper. You can never tell, but I don't think he is. He's the kind of rider I would expect to finish in the top 5-10 of a race like the Dauphine. The fact he's made it to the top is more of a pleasant surprise than unbelievable.

It always helps to have an external voice help form your opinions. Tony Kornheiser from Pardon The Interruption knows so little about 'soccer' that he thinks the Ivory Coast actually have a chance of winning the World Cup, but his observation about football not being a sport you have to try to win is absolutely spot on.

The Alexx Calise video is superb and will be showing up on WMVP when I get around to recording some new episodes. The other videos are pretty cool as well.

Episode #146 Shownotes

You expect cheating accusations in modern professional cycling, but saying that people have been putting motors under their cycle seats is totally ridiculous. Accusing Fabian Cancellara is even worse. He's one of the greatest cyclists of this generation.

It seems amazing that David Laws felt he needed to stay in the closet so strongly that he allowed it to destroy his career. The irony is that in the modern liberal world we live in it is the fact that same-sex partners are acceptable that has brought him down.

Two pretty nice performance videos and a good 'found footage' effort this week.
