Episode #145 Shownotes

A double sized Dr. Who spoiler section this week for the 2 episodes I need to catch up on. I thought it would be about the same size, but as everybody knows I tend to talk too much.

Since recording this episode Ivan Basso has taken the Pink Jersey in the Giro d'Italia despite a valiant defensive ride by David Arroyo. Cadel Evans has slipped down to 5th and seems out of it, but there is stil one REALLY big mountain stage to come so anything can happen.

There's been no further news on the Landis accusations. I'll let you know when they are proved groundless.

Not an awful lot on the video front this week. The Kiara Elles' video is pretty cool though.

Episode #144 Shownotes

After 4 days, countless hours of editing and a repaired laptop, I can finally bring you the special episode I recorded for World Goth Day. Of course World Goth Day is now over, but that's what severe technical issues will do for you.

I had only just finished editing the final version of the mp3 when my laptop's Hard Drive failed losing everything I had spent 2 days working on. Fortunately my guests for this show, Brandi & Dave from the InsideOutcast, had a back-up recording of both sides of the skype conversation we had. I then spent another 2 days reconstructing the show using this back-up. The quality is sadly not great, but it's better than nothing and should still be fun to listen to.

On this show we discuss all things Goth, including Goth icons,

Voltaire

Abby Sciutto, played by the amazingly youthful Pauley Perrette

and Tim Burton

We also take a detour into Dr. Who. Since both Brandi and I are obsessed we couldn't resist.

Here is the Cure video which so marked my 10 year old self

Brandi's gag about not calling a vampire by his real name was a reference to this track by Voltaire. Just one thing he does really well is making Goth funny.

The videos for this week are a pretty cool bunch. Apparently Goths make good music videos.

Episode #143 Shownotes

Be grateful that other stuff took precedence over the Giro d'Italia. The cycling race has finished it's first week and has been remarkably entertaining.

I hope that the early impressions of the Conservative/Liberal Democrat coalition proves correct. However early optimism often fades. I hate the fact that the Conservatives are in power again, but hopefully the influence of the Lib Dems will correct the worst excesses of the right-wing tossers. I suspect that the coalition will collapse within 18 months. Let's hope that some form of PR is in place before then.

The Smoking Mirrors video is a fantastic melding of technically proficient film-making and home-made techniques. A superb video that is made all the better by the fact is was directed by a teenager.

Episode #142 Shownotes

The electoral system in this country is completely broken.

This pie chart shows the percentage of votes in this election and also the percentage of seats that they garnered in the Parliament. The Outer ring shows seats, the Inner ring shows votes. The hugely disproportionate difference in both the Labour and Liberal Democrat representation is clear to see. I really, really hope that the general public has now seen the light and actively wants PR.

Another demonstration of the idiotic system can be seen if you combine the results for the 2 constituencies that represent the university city of Oxford. If you combine the figures for both Oxford East and Oxford West & Abingdon constituencies you get the following figures:

Liberal Democrats - 41,087 Votes
Conservative - 33,633 Votes
Labour - 27,937 Votes
Other Parties - 5,474 Votes

You would think given these results the LibDems would have had at least one of the seats. In the election Labour won one and the Conservatives won one. Total bollocks.

Episode #141 Shownotes

I ended up recording and editing this over the course of 3 days. I put far too much time into this damn show...

Another reminder that there are Dr. Who spoilers between 6:51-14:24.

Here's the advert I was talking about that was banned by 2 US TV networks.

The hypocrisy of Western ideals of beauty really annoys me. Women are told that big breasts are something to aspire to, and yet the women who most commonly have big breasts (i.e. bigger women) are ignored and marginalised. Here are pictures of the 2 women I was talking about, Denise Milani and Ashley Graham. The album art for this episode of my show should tell you who I'd rather be looking at.

A plug for GeekPlanetOnline Home of such great podcasts as The Eclectic Podcast, Cinematic Dramatic and Newsgeek as well as old favourites The InsideOutcast, The Black Dog Podcast and The Box Room. 2 of my dogs make a guest appearance on The Eclectic Podcast S03 Ep06 - Great Balls Of Fire.

I really should have been doing this for a long time, but since one of the tracks on this weeks show comes from the good people at IODA, you get a free mp3.

A couple of produced videos this week, but for once the most interesting entry is the live performance video. The Strait Laces video was done by a N. Irish company who specialise in recording bands in unusual locations. So we see the band perform a stripped down, acoustic version of 'Where The Wolf Roam' in a tattoo parlour. Bizarre.
