Episode #131 Shownotes

It's ironic, or perhaps unfortunate, that the same week Tim sent me a lengthy e-mail that required response, the show is goth/industrial heavy. The only time I ever received a negative response about the content of my show it was Tim complaining about an Industrial track.

I briefly mentioned Riccardo Ricco in my cycling section. Ricco was banned for 2 years after failing a dope test at the 2008 Tour de France. Earlier in the year the mother of his child, cyclocross rider Vania Rossi, tested positive for the same substance he was banned for. Since I recorded I've discovered that Ricco has split from Rossi, claiming to be disappointed in her. What a hypocritical tosser.

Bad selection of videos this week. Only 2 and they both don't feature the entire song.

Episode #130 Shownotes

The libel laws in this country are sickening. Read more about it at the campaign website and if you feel as strong about it as I do you can sign the petition.

Pump Up The Volume by M/A/R/R/S is an iconic track for a number of reasons. I truly believe when it reached No. 1 in 1987 it changed the face of the British music industry forever. For those of you who haven't heard it before, here's the vid. It's a video of the edited track, which is not quite as good as the full length version, but it's the best available.

Not a bad selection of videos for this weeks tracks.

Episode #129 Shownotes

Although the main point of talking about 'Nine Lessons & Carols For Godless People' was to talk about Ben Goldacre and Matthias Rath, I can't resist letting a little Atheism seep in. This is an article that was read by Richard Dawkins on the DVD, Gerin Oil. I'm sorry if you're fed up with me banging on about religion, but I got praised by Dave & Caroline Lee from The Bugcast (AKA the only church-goers I consider friends) when I ranted about Pat Robertson the other week. I'm not sure they'll be so sympathetic about this article...

Send A Cow is a really good charity that does a lot of good in some of the poorest regions in Africa. They are a hell of a lot more useful than Dr. Matthias Rath. Consider supporting them or the American equivalent Heifer International.

Ben Goldacre is a great example of what can be achieved with rationalism, investigative zeal and common sense. Check out his blog Bad Science where you can find a link to buy his excellent book of the same name.

But if you follow only one of the many links on this post follow this one. It's the chapter of Goldacre's book that was omitted from the hardback edition because he was being sued by Rath. If you do only one thing scroll to the end of the chapter and read the sickening indictment of Zackie Achmat that was sent by Anthony Brink to the International Criminal Court in The Hague. This shit just boggles the mind.

You have until February 25th to submit your tracks and mp3 introductions to my 3rd anniversary show. Just saying...

Fantastic selection of videos this week. A few of these will be showing up on future episodes of WMVP.
